The city of Paris is internationally acclaimed as one of the most romantic and enchanting cities in the world, from Ernest Hemmingway to Woody Allen, celebrities have been singing its praises for centuries. Many visitors find it difficult, with the sheer number of things to see and do, to find time for all of them, as every district in Paris has its own attractions and places of interest, which every visitor will tell you cannot be missed. The parts are often more than the sum of the whole, as a visitor with an open mind can busy themselves for days in a single district, while they may be lost if they attempted to take in the city as a whole. The Paris Opera district is one of these special areas, and there is more than enough to occupy even the most easily distracted of tourists.

One of the highlights of the district is the magnificent Opera Garnier. The setting of the Phantom of The Opera, the building alone is a fantastic and inspiring piece of architecture, which more than justifies its reputation. Entry is cheap if you book in advance, giving visitors the chance to experience some of the thrill that original opera goers had when Opera Garnier was first built. Not far from the Opera is the Musee Grevin, a waxwork museum which contains over 500 characters arranged in various scenes from the history of Paris – particularly entertaining for those children too young to start appreciating the opera! However, it is not high culture alone that makes the Opera District so particularly alluring; near to the north is the famous red-light district of Paris, Pigalle.

Long a favorite haunt of poets and artists, the Pigalle area was once the premier red-light district of Paris. While now it has lost much of its seedier aspects, and has slowly been brought into the tourist trail, it still retains much of its old-fashioned charm, and enjoys some of the cheapest and most interesting boutiques in all of Paris. There are a great range of shops available, enough to please the tastes of all visitors, with the atmosphere of charm and style that the city of Paris exudes naturally. This area attracts many colourful characters, and the street life of the city alone can be entertainment enough for the casual observer. Take the time to linger in this district, and you will not be disappointed.

There are many good reasons to visit Paris, and the Opera District alone contains many of them. The district, like all of Paris, is a fascinating place that the enterprising visitor can never tired of. If you choose your accommodation carefully, and choose a Paris city centre, in the Opera district itself, you can't go far wrong. Of course, every Paris district has its own charm, for you to discover yourself, but the Opera district especially offers a taste of Paris that is difficult to beat. Close to the city centre and all of the famous attractions of Paris, the Opera district nonetheless is distinct in its identity and flavour, a definite must-visit.
