The Importance of Good Leadership Skills in an Organization
No one is born as leaders. Leadership skills are not embedded in a person from the time he or she is born. This is one of the primary misconceptions that people have. A person gets and develops leadership skills as he or she progress in life. Now why are leadership skills important in an organization? Why do we need a good team lead? The answer is simple. For the effective progress of the organization, you need someone who has the capability to lead.
Leadership skills can be compared to the ingredient yeast of a cake. Without the yeast, you will not get the fluffiness of the cake. Seriously, a cake has to be soft and smooth, so that you can relish it with great ease. In the same way, leadership plays a major role and if there is no proper leadership skill, you could have an organization that is on the verge of sinking.
Whether you have the technology, time, finance, skilled employees, you will not achieve progress and success unless there is a good leadership skill. You need to realize is that to effectively utilize the technology, finance, employees, there should be someone who has to lead. In a sense, there should be someone who has to plan, organize and make sure that these valuable resources are used to the fullest.
Besides being an excellent resource-planner, a good leader should also be a visionary. He or she has to plan for the future; where the company is going and the future prospects of the company. Also he or she has to pilot through the worst and most unanticipated problem that occur in the organization. The future does not mean only about the company, but also of the employees. The career development of his or her subordinates is also the primary objective of a good leader. Subordinates look-up and respect their leaders, so it becomes the moral obligation of an admired leader to think about his or her subordinates.
Further, a leader should have effective communication skills. Communication skills do not mean speaking clearly or slowly, but trying to convey your opinions and ideas to your teammates. It also means inspiring others and stimulating them to achieve the goals of the organization. Whether it is a meeting, lunch break, etc a leader will try to encourage and boost the eagerness of his team members to do the work. It does not mean that a leader has to be work- authoritarian or something, as all leaders have the moral responsibility of keeping the company and project alive.
However, a leader will always respect and pays heed to the opinions suggested by his subordinates. Just like how people of the Moving Companies listen to your suggestions and opinions at the time of moving, in the same way a leader always understands the importance of varying opinions in the workplace. He or she knows that the finest ideas can originate from different ways of looking at situations or problems.
Another formidable characteristic of a leader is being flexible. He or she should be flexible to changes and situations. Though most of the leaders are rigid in their goals and opinions, they are always flexible to the changes and opinions suggested by their subordinates. A leader will not shy away from learning from his juniors as for being a good leader, you need to constantly look for opportunities to expand your knowledge and learn from mistakes. This is why a leader is important for a company as he or she will always try to improve the methods to develop the company.
In short, a leader knows what is best for the company and his team. He or she knows when to draw a line in terms of the relationship with the superiors and subordinates. Possibly one of the major characteristic of a leader is that though he or she is a charismatic leader, he or she will never treat others as beneath them.
