Church of the Holy Sepulchre

This is the most holy site in the city for Christians, containing as it does five Stations of the Cross. Visitors, on entering, go straight up a short staircase to the Chapel of Golgotha. At the centre of this revered building, is the place where Jesus is thought to have been buried and subsequently resurrected. On descending to the Angel’s Chapel, visitors can see where He appeared to the Virgin Mary after rising from the tomb. The structure as it stands, dates back mostly to the Crusades.

City of David

King David, of Biblical fame, established this site himself more than three millennia ago, and now visitors can catch an amazing glimpse of the city’s ancient history here. It contains a tunnel for underground water that dates back 2700 years, and also an underground spring. These and other archaeological finds, made in recent years, allow visitors to feel a direct connection to Biblical events, and to the characters associated with the city.

Mount of Olives

This is probably one of the most famous and revered sites on the planet, redolent with history and full of potent symbolism, even for those who live thousands of miles away and are only familiar with it from the New Testament. It lies east of Temple Mount, just beyond the old city walls. It now contains the biggest Jewish cemetery in the world, but for Christians its importance lies in the fact that the Garden of Gethsemane lies at its foot.

Whether visitors are religiously inclined or not, they will find plenty of things to do in Jerusalem. There is much of historical and cultural interest, and there are also the usual activities to enjoy, such as shopping, sports and dining out.
