Christmas Festivals Vienna Markets

If you have never had the pleasure of staying in one of the many Vienna hotels during the Christmas season, then you have never experienced the absolute pleasure of participating in one of the traditional Christmas Markets, which are held every year to celebrate the holidays, with visitors from around the world staying in Vienna hotels.

Every Vienna hotel in the city will be decorated in the Christmas fashion, and everyone staying in a Vienna hotel will be here for one thing: participation in the markets. Generally opening around November 15th and staying open until December 24th, the markets are less about shopping and more about simply eating, drinking and making merry with other travellers and locals. Every day from midday until the late hours of the night people gather at these markets to drink wine or punch, and fill the evening hours with plenty of talk and food.

The largest and busiest incarnation of the Christmas market is Rathaus, which is located in the town square between Rathaus and Burtheater, known by its official name as Wiener Chrstkindlmarkt. It is more of a fairground than anything else, featuring a massive Christmas tree, ice skating, and plenty of other opportunities to mingle with locals while getting away from your Vienna hotel. For a more intimate setting other individuals choose the Spittelberg, which is slightly more picturesque and less fairground-style, although there are a variety of other markets to choose from throughout the city. The markets are free to attend and are simply celebrations for everyone involved.
