Removals & relocation companies reduce the pressure of moving from a large to a smaller home

As the years go by, many families find themselves coping up with the empty nest syndrome. The kids have grown up, gone away to college or have moved out of the family home to start out on their own. All of a sudden, the good old family home suddenly feels all empty and cold. There was a time when the place was threatening to burst at its seams. Today however, it feels as empty as a defunct theme park.

Realization dawns and the tough decision of right-sizing the home is taken. The heart grows heavier as the countdown to moving day begins and one is set for a certain bout of ache and longing. After-all, it is not easy for anyone to vacate the one place they’ve called home. There’s still a lot of hope and its not all downhill from here though. A smaller home although it appears to be an insurmountable task, does come with its own unique advantages. The utilities bills finally come down as the heating and cooling area reduces, taxes too are lowered as they too are calculated on the residential area. Fittings, maintenance, upkeep costs, all become easier to live with. Tidying up the house too goes from becoming a mission impossible into something of a breeze. But for all this to materialize there has to be a certain amount of planning and meticulous thought that must be put into it.

Moving home throws open the opportunity to finally get that much dreaded ‘deep cleaning’ done. Those useless stacks of newspapers, the rows and rows of rusty, rotting, obsolete electronics and other gadgets, everything must go. Call in the recyclers and give away everything that you haven’t touched in the past couple of years. Things that the recyclers won’t touch, or old stuff that’s still in working/usable condition can be donated to the nearest charity (they’ll thank you for your generous gesture).

What is left behind must be segregated. Stuff that you are likely to use frequently can be marked to be transferred to your new home. Important but less frequently needed stuff can be kept securely with the neighborhood storage company. All existing furniture must be marked out carefully onto templates, at-least for their footprints, onto pieces of stiff-paper/soft board. These templates can then be placed in the new home to check if the said furniture would actually fit. This saves one the frustration and trouble of dismantling/transplanting furniture to a new place, only to realize that the latter would be unable to accommodate it.

Organize those moving boxes by using color codes, clear and easy-to-understand labels that offer at-a-glance information on the contents inside. Also, the storage boxes must be clubbed according to the location they are to be unboxed in the new home (for e.g. kitchen, study, etc.). Lastly, it may be tempting to save up on some money and do all the moving yourself, but it may make greater sense to engage the services of one of the many removals and relocation companies in your vicinity. Not only do they have the right equipment and trained personnel for the task, they’ll even have the expertise to make the move quicker than you ever can.
