Typewriters – the Know-How and Functioning

Type writer happens to be one of the most useful inventions of modern world. There can be no offices where type writers have not been used before computers made their way to these offices. No official work was possible without using typewriters. Actually, it can be put this way that these mechanical devices used to serve the purpose of what printers serve today but with slight variations in functioning.

Type writer is a mechanical device where there are separate buttons of alphabets and numbers that are required to press so that a printed impression of the specific alphabets and numbers pressed gets printed on the printing medium present. To be more clear and precise, in computers we have got a key board where buttons for alphabets, numbers, special signs and characters are present, one needs to press the desired keys to write and those writings are viewed on the display screen of the monitor. Later a print command is sent to the printer to get the printed document, for which the inks need to be in place. Somewhat this process is similar to what happens in a type writer. However, the difference between computers and typewriters is that there is no display screen in the later one. Whatever writings are done that directly gets printed on the paper and no separate command is required for printing and the printing is done in white paper with black ink, there is no separate provision of printing in colored ink, unlike today’s computer.

The mechanical device in question here was invented somewhere in the 1860s and been used randomly since then till the 20th century before the arrival of computers. In the early days, writing official documents or books had become very easy that too in lesser amount of time due to these early devices of printing.
