Tips to Choose the Right Ergonomic Chair

If you work for a company, on an average you will spend around 8 to 9 hours on chair. Needless to say, if you sit in the wrong chair it can make you tired and ‘kill’ you slowly. Choosing the right type of chair helps to reduce back pain and neck related problems. While choosing office chairs there are various factors which have to be considered and here you will find few of them.

(a)Seat height

Choose a computer chair which can be easily adjusted, most of the high end office chairs comes with hydraulic or pneumatic adjustments. You can adjust the height based upon your requirement; normally it must be 16 to 21 inches away from the floor. When you adjust make sure that your feet rests on the floor and the arm is easy to reach the desk.

(b)Width and depth

If you want to sit comfortably for long time then the seat must have adequate width and depth. A good chair must be 17- 20 inches wide. It must also have enough depth to ensure that the user can sit comfortably without hurting the back. . Muscles and spinal cord gets strained if you sit in the same position for long time. Seat must have an adjuster to tilt the seat in forward or backward position comfortably.

(c)Arm rests

Arm rests of the chair must be cushioned and if it is fixed permanently then it must be in the right position to rest the elbow and arms. Enquire at the shop whether they have office chairs with adjustable arm rests. It is completely easy to adjust it based upon your need while typing or resting. In a good office chair the forearm should not rest on armrest while typing.

(d)Swivel

Ergonomic office chair must swivel easily so that you can reach different areas of desk with much ease. Swivel chairs allow you to move in any directions and offers more flexibility than traditional office chairs.

(e)Lumbar support

A good ergonomic hair should offer good lumbar support. Naturally lumbar spine is inward curve and it must be supported while you sit, otherwise it gets flatten with time and causes unwanted strain to spinal cord. Lumbar support of the chair must be adjustable in nature and must provide good support to the lower back portion of the spine.

(f)Seat material

Computer chairs must be made from highly durable fabrics. Seat must have enough cushioning materials to provide comfort. Breathable fabrics are always good as it do not cause excess amount of heat.
