Sydney Tenders for Art & About
Sydney Tenders have been released inviting people to tender for Art & About. Art & About began in Sydney in 2002 with the idea of transforming the city into a big living canvas/gallery. This included the first Sydney Life Exhibition which showed images of the city in large scale photographs hung in Hyde Park. They also began Sculpture in the City which is presented by Sculpture by the Sea and centres around Martin Place.
The City of Sydney is currently inviting people to tender for this Sydney tender for Art & About. The successful applicant will submit proposals for temporary art installations or events for the 2012 event. A range of multidisciplinary arts projects and installations up to a value of $80,000 will be considered.
The City of Sydney wants fresh ideas from artists, curators and other creative minds for one of the country's best public art festivals Art & About Sydney.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said expressions of interest for the festival were now open and encouraged people to get their proposals in.
"This is a rare opportunity to make art in places where everyday Sydneysiders will see it and to make work that changes the way people look at their city," the Lord Mayor said.
"These artworks inspire residents and visitors and spark the imagination, and we want to help foster more of this kind of open creativity.
"It's part of our public art strategy - taking art out of the galleries and into the city's parks and squares, streets and laneways."
The City seeks temporary artworks across three projects:
Major installation;
Collaborative children's installation; and
Village art installation.
Each project has differing objectives, but all must demonstrate artistic excellence, an innovative approach, and be highly accessible and appeal to a broad audience.
The City provides financial support of $10,000 to $80,000 for the major installation and collaborative children's installation projects.
The village art installation, which is a collaborative project developed by artists or art organisations within a local community, is funded up to $40,000.
Interested participants should visit artandabout.com.au for information, with the expression of interest period closing at 11am, Tuesday 6 March.
The month long festival of public art, now in its 11th year, is building a strong international reputation. For more information on these Sydney tenders, contact City of Sydney Senior Media Adviser Jodie Minus, phone 02 9265 9910.
