1. Traditional Payroll Method: This method was an ultimate choice for businesses having limited budget. In this type, the in-house employees were required to sit down and calculate payroll manually rather than hiring payroll experts. However, it requires a lot of time, cost and effort to calculate payroll and payroll tax reports and deposits.

2. Payroll Software: Although the payroll software reduced the time taken for payroll processing, but it couldn’t make the results accurate due to ever-changing laws. There was a still requirement to calculate regular and overtime hours of each employee as per the latest laws and rules.

3. Outsourcing Payroll: One of the popular options of small and large companies is to outsource payroll experts who handle the entire payroll functioning without working as a permanent employee. The company can take the complete advantage of hiring an expert but doesn't have to offer any employee benefits entitled to permanent employees.

4. Online Payroll System: This is one of the recent systems wherein the entire payroll data is entered into the payroll system for processing payroll on-time. The employers are required to enter the details and then the rest of the work is handled by the system. It eliminates the need to stay present in the office as the details can be accessed through password-secured account on the Internet.

Among all the available options, employers somehow trust on online payroll services wherein accuracy and timeliness is guaranteed under all circumstances. The online payroll experts will comply with state, federal and local payroll tax laws to keep you away from IRS fines and penalties. If you are a small business owner, the need to make conscious decision for your business payroll needs is tough. Therefore, it is necessary to keep more than one option in hand so that you can easily switch payroll service provider in the middle of the year. Once you have made the right selection, you will not have to worry about payroll every month.
