Advantages and Disadvantages of Mig Welder
The MIG Welder is highly useful and handy welding equipment. The welder, also known as the Metal Inert Gas Welder is a machine which is used to carry out welding with inert gases. The two major components of the equipment are a continuous wire electrode which is coupled with shielding gas and an amalgamation which is fed through a welding torch.
The MIG Welder is highly versatile, fast, agile, economical, highly popular and easily available. Due to this reasons it is one of the most commonly and frequently used welding machines across the various industry verticals. It is also easy to use and has effortless handling which adds to its positive attributes.
One of the reasons the MIG welder is such a highly sought after tool is because of the process of welding becoming almost a necessity across the industry. Because of the air volatility, welding which is carried out by this equipment is best suited and sometimes only limited to indoor applications.
MIG welding can be used on all thicknesses of steels. It can also be used on aluminum, nickel, and even on stainless steel. However, it is most typically utilized in manufacturing and in commercial fabrication settings.
Advantages of Mig welding are:
•High quality welds are possible at a much faster rate in case of Mig Welder.
•The absence of flux ensures that the entrapment of slag in the welded metal will be absent which ensures a high quality weld.
•The loss of alloying elements is minimal due to the presence of the gas shield which protects the arc. Spatter is produced but only in minimal quantities.
•The versatility of MIG welding enables its usage with a wide variety of metals and alloys.
•The MIG process can be operated in more than one ways which include semi and fully automatic.
Disadvantages of Mig welding are:
•Vertical and overhead positions of welding will not be able to use the MIG welding process as the heat input is high and the weld puddle has more than the regular fluidity.
•The welding equipment isn’t simple.
