Grand History of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthnam
If you belong to Hindu religion, you must have heard the name ‘Tirupati Darshan’. It’s what every Hindu wish to do at least once in his lifetime. God Venkateswara, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is believed to fulfill all wishes made in front of his idol in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthnam, a holy temple located at Tirumala Hills in Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This divine destination is really impressive both in term of architectural design and spiritual significance. The place is believed to be an adobe of Lord Vishnu, and hence is called ‘the Vaikuntham on Earth’.
The temple has an interesting tale behind its origin. Once the great sage Bhrigu visited Lord Vishnu to settle a dispute between ‘rishis’ about who is the supreme power among Trinity Gods – Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. When the sage went to Vaikuntham, Lord Vishnu was busy with his consort Lakshmi, so he could not honor the sage immediately. Bhrigu felt humiliated and kicked at the chest of Lord Vishnu. But in return, the lord didn’t react aggressively and apologized to the sage. This whole act made Goddess Laxmi to feel insulted, and that’s why she left Vishnu’s adobe ‘Vaikuntham’ immediately.
Felling alone, Lord Vishnu too left the Viakuntham and went to earth in search of Laxmi. He then stopped at Seshadri hills to rest in an anthill. When Lord Brahma and Shiva came to know about the issue, they decided to intervene to resolve it. They turned to the cow and its calf, and went at the place of a Chola king. The king bought that cow and calf, and ordered a cowherd to take care of them. The cow went to Shesadri hill to graze, and empted its milk at the place where the Lord Vishnu was living. This made the cowherd very upset and angry, so he decided to find out the reason. And when he found the cow emptying its milk at the anthill, he blew his axe to the head of the cow. Since lord Vishnu knew that the cow is ‘Brahma’ itself, he rose from the hill to receive the attack. The axe passed away kissing the head of Lord Vishu that resulted in loss of some hair permanently. Gandharva princess Neela Devi noticed that, and immediately cut her hair to implant them on Vishnu’s head with her magical power. Lord Vishnu knew the importance of hair for a omen, so he promised Neela Devi that she would recipient of all hair donated by his devotees. It’s therefore believed that the hair donated by the devoteed at Tirupati is collected by Neel Devi.
Undoubtedly, Tirupati temple is of religious grandness and worth visiting for every Hindu. It’s perhaps the wealthiest temple in the world, and is thronged by millions of devotees annually. Someone who wishes to visit this sacred temple should buy a customized Tirupati package from some authentic source to make his/her trip comfy.
