Where to Eat in Sheffield
From its beginnings as an industrial powerhouse, Sheffield has emerged in recent decades as a burgeoning tourist destination for Brits and foreign travellers alike. This South Yorkshire borough is an attractive place to visit for many reasons, not least the fact that it's filled with lush parks and surrounded by gorgeous sprawling hills. In fact, the city of Sheffield is home to an estimated 2.5 million trees and thus has the highest ratio of trees to people than any other European city. Its stunning natural scenery isn't the only thing Sheffield has going. Another perk of this post-industrial gem is its food scene, which offers a broad range of cuisines to suit every taste and budget.
If you're in the mood for a hearty Italian meal, then Vito's Italian Restaurant on South Road is ideal. This cosy eatery is elegant and homey at the same time. Its rustic interior, with exposed brickwork and traditional Italian décor, will make you feel like you've stepped into a cottage in the Italian countryside. But enough about the building itself- the food is fabulous! Take your pick of classic Italian dishes, from pizza and pasta to beautiful seared meats or grilled fish.
If you're in the mood for something a bit lighter, get a takeaway from Edo Sushi and enjoy fresh Japanese cuisine like fresh tuna rolls, teriyaki salmon and miso soup. If you or any of your friends are new to sushi, Edo is the ideal place to try it for the first time, as the fish is also freshly prepared (thus, it's never too 'fishy' tasting).
Healthy food, such as organic and vegetarian cuisine, has gained popularity in Sheffield in recent years. The Fusion Organic Café on Ardunel Street serves up gorgeous (and delicious!) salads, light fluffy quiches and fresh pastries. It’s often cited as the best café in all of Sheffield.
Vegetarians will feel right at home at the Blue Moon vegetarian café, located on James Street. This former auction salesroom now serves up a delightfully varied menu, offering vegetarians something they don't usually get on restaurant menus: choices! Diners can choose from freshly made soups, spicy quesadillas or burritos, fresh veggie specials and, of course, salads.
Thus, Sheffield is a foodie-friendly city offering great cuisine that doesn’t break the bank. There’s an array of affordable restaurants and cheap hotels in Sheffield, making a visit to the South Yorkshire borough is a great option for a British ‘staycation’.
