Foreign exchange receipts per tourist per day registered an annual growth of 8.4% to reach US$88 in 2010. The Asia-Pacific region and Europe remain the major source regions for inbound tourists in Sri Lanka, together accounting for over 85% of the total inbound visits in the review period. India continues to be the primary source market, accounting for around 20% of inbound traffic, followed by the UK and Germany with over 15% and 5% respectively. Leisure remained the main purpose of travel for inbound tourists in the review period, and accounted for 84.6% of the total visits in 2011.
