Puerto Rico has so much on offer in terms of sightseeing. For a traveler coming here for the first time it can be rather overwhelming. If you are worried about missing out on some essential sights in the region, here are some must-see places for you to enjoy while in Puerto Rico.

Whether you are traveling alone or as a group or family, the Castillo de San Felipe del Morro is one place in Old San Juan that you will not want to miss. It is quite a large landmark and more than four centuries old. When it was in use, it served to protect San Juan as well as the shipping route that connected the New World to the old one. As you walk through the six levels of this citadel you will be spell bound by its deep historical significance as well as the views.

The Vieques biobay is also another place that you just have to visit. Try and time your visit on a new moon night when there is pitch darkness around you. At first you may not really see what all the fuss is about, but then look down at your oars and you will find it glowing green in the dark. It’s an experience in itself.

El Yunque, which means "the anvil" is where the tropical rainforest system is in place. This is located round two hours away from San Juan. You should visit the place in transportation of your own. This gives you a good chance to explore the terrain, which is dotted with mountains and spectacular beach views. You can easily become one with nature here. This is the one area in Puerto Rico that has not changed at all.

Though Culebra Island does not have anything other than Flamenco Beach and a few bars and restaurants to its credit, it is definitely a place that you would like to include in your itinerary. It is quiet and rather isolated, making it a perfect honeymooning spot. The Río Camuy Caves are another place that you should not leave out of your itinerary. You can add a visit to the Arecibo Observatory, where the largest radio telescope in the world is located, to the list as well.
