Cook Islands - an Untouched Beauty
Fifteen islands in the South Pacific Ocean compose the Cook Islands -- an independent country closely attached to New Zealand. The Polynesian way of life on these islands, a quiet and happy-go-lucky way of living, keeps explorers booking flights to Cook Islands each year. It is here, where thousands of years of Polynesian civilization blend together with stunning landscape of towering jungle-clad mountains, turquoise water lagoons, lush coffee farms and golden sandy seashores baking in the sun.
The islands were first viewed at the turn of the 17th century by Spanish voyagers Alvaro de Mendaña, sighting the Pukapuka Island in 1595, and 11 years afterwards by Pedro Fernández de Quirós breaking in their journey at Rakahanga to take on provisions. Amid 1773 and 1777, the English voyager James Cook navigated the area on board, The Resolution and charted most of it, naming the archipelago the "Harvey Islands". It was not until the 1830 that the islands were renamed in respect of Captain Cook.
This country prospers through tourism. Tourists booking Cook Island flights and accommodations keep the country afloat, tourism is the most important financial trade, followed by offshore banking, pearls, marine as well as fruit exports. The country greets approximately 90,000 visitors a year to the capital island of Rarotonga. It's here that tourists experience a wave of serenity and easiness, prior to heading off on snorkeling adventures, mountaineering or trolling the white sand seashores.
Rarotonga, which is unquestionably a gem in the country's tiara with its hilly surroundings, green tropical forests and powdery seashores, magnetizes most of tourists attracted with the movie-like locations. Its sister, the Aitutaki Island, showing treasures like the world's biggest coral lagoon pouring out with tropical sea exquisiteness and a circle of striking deserted islets, comes second in the tourist arrivals. However, wherever you go in the Cook Islands you shall be pleased with eye-catching exquisiteness and sheer serenity, far from the chaos of the cultured world, so don't hesitate to venture a tour.
The weather conditions in the Cook Islands are pleasing year-round, but it's possible to rain time and again. But, this shouldn't discourage travelers from booking cheap flights to Cook Islands. The weather is warm and sunny and the rain, though imminent, is not very harsh.
