Airline Flights to Broaden Your World View
Today, now that travelers can schedule flights to nearly every location in the world, a different way of travel is the available. In the previous centuries, a Grand Tour of Europe might last for several months. A few of the very wealthy would schedule a round-the-world tour. This trip was usually due to last an entire year. Today's traveler might breakfast in London and have dinner at a San Francisco restaurant.
Most people are fond of saying that the world is getting smaller. The ability to travel from one location to another quickly means benefits and problems. Spending more time in the airport than on the flight itself is frustrating to some, but a short time in the air means you can be having fun at a destination in a matter of hours. Even though no one likes to be searched before boarding, it may be offset by the ability to get to another location quickly.
When traveling on a ship in years past, the passengers might be on board for days or even weeks. The trip across the Atlantic Ocean, for example, might take several days. During the travel time, passengers had opportunities to become better acquainted with others. There might even be time for a little romance. Often the people traveling were from the same social classes.
Holiday cruises today place less emphasis on the destination and more on the shipboard activities. While this can be appealing to some, it really doesn't help the traveler learn more about another culture or people group. The passengers may be off loaded at a Caribbean port or two, but the typical activity is shopping or night life.
Instead of spending three days on a ship, some adventurous travelers are booking vacations where they fly to a different and unique destination and spend the time on the ground, learning about another culture. There are literally hundreds of opportunities to reduce the cost of the stay in another country and learn more about the people and locale at the same time. By scheduling the travel in advance, you can usually get a bargain price.
Lodging and other accommodations don't have to be at a luxury resort. You can check out a boutique hotel, a bed and breakfast, a rental caravan, or even a vacation home rental. If you are even more adventurous, work through a volunteer group for a short term project. Churches, colleges and universities and other groups often arrange a project in another country. There may be building or medical help or other types of tasks that are offered.
Active holidays are a nice change from the time spent on the plane. You can spend time bird watching, fishing, skiing or snorkeling. Combining this with a visit to a local historical society museum will provide you with a better understanding of the people who reside in the area.
Book one of the comfortable and exciting flights of today for a new type of vacation destination. You won't spend long on the plane and can look forward to the adventure you will have when you arrive. You may even have time to take a nap while you head for your destination.
