What is Mobile OS? Demand for Mobile Operating Systems
Mobile users are very much aware of the Mobile operating system, but when they are asked as what is Mobile OS, they sometimes get confused. Well, both the things are equal which is called as Mobile OS in general. Basically, the Mobile Operating System is the one that runs various applications in the mobile phone.
The OS can be found not only on mobile phones, but also on tablets, PDAs and other handy devices. A mobile OS is very important to perfectly run any application on your smartphones or other devices. It is the one which determines functions and features that remain present in the devices including WAP, synchronization with applications, text messaging, email, keyboards, and others. The Mobile Operating System also determines the apps (third-party) which can perform effectively in a particular device.
Highest demand of Mobile OS:
It’s been years that a new operating system has entered the global market and became the king of all. Today, every common person demands that particular operating system which is none other than Android from Google. After the availability of Android phones and Android Market, the world has shifted towards Google’s creation and only demands Android-based devices. With such craze, the app makers and the phone manufacturers have considered to develop and create only Android-based features and phones. In fact, since its inception, Android has quickly launched with different versions to provide better access to users. Now, the latest Android version which has launched few months back and is lined up by several leading smartphone and other device makers to include in their devices is the Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Other Operating Systems:
After the launch of Android in the market, other operating systems which were on demand are completely vanished. People only started demanding Android and other mobile operating systems such as Symbian and Bada which have enormously decreased their sales.
Common Operating Systems other than Android:
• iOS from Apple
• Windows Phone from Microsoft
• BlackBerry OS from RIM
• Linux
• webOS from HP
• Bada from Samsung
• Symbian from Nokia
• MeeGo from Intel and Nokia
The mobile operating system or the software operating system which operates on devices like PDAs, smartphones, mobile phones, and other handy computers has covered a niche segment for itself in the global market. The widely used OS these days is the Mobile OS which is a mobile version of an OS and is found on computers.
Symbian was the highest used OS:
Before Android, Symbian operating system from Nokia was the highest used OS across the world. There were only two operating systems which were spread all over the world – Nokia’s Symbian and Apple’s iOS. Where iOS was ruling in North America, Oceania and Europe; Symbian ruled in South America, Asia and Africa. It’s clear that Nokia is the largest maker of mobile phones in the world, but its Symbian is still present around, but is losing gradually due to Android.
With such high competition, there are a number of mobile operating systems which are universally dead. For example, the WinCE from Microsoft is dead and it’s time to see how long Windows Phone 7 can go.
