Sahara India Pariwar towards sports development in India
Sahara India Pariwar is one of the largest corporate conglomerates in India with a diversified business interest that include infrastructure and housing, finance, consumer merchandise retail venture, media & entertainment and information technology. The company has also contributed immensely to inadequate provision and development of sports in India. It has been supporting the National Championships of Shooting, Wrestling, Archery and Boxing for the future of these disciplines in the Indian sporting field.
Moreover, the company is currently serving its third consecutive term as the major official supporter of India Cricket Team. Due to its continuous support, the company was offered the opportunity to involve itself in the making of the cricket stadium at Pune which has been named after Subrata Roy Sahara. Sahara India Pariwar’s contribution to development of sports in India is quite obvious through its sponsorship of major events like World Junior Power lifting in Delhi (1995), The Historic Sahara Cup Cricket at Toronto in Canada for three consecutive years (1996 – 1998), Indira Gandhi Hockey in Delhi (1995), Sahara India Gold Cup, Asia Cup Tennis in Delhi (1997), Sahara Uttar Pradesh Sports in Lucknow (1999), Women Cricket test match series between India and England (2003), Akhil Bhartiya Table Tennis Tournament (2003), SAARC Inter airline cricket tournament in Kathmandu (2003), Sahara Bucchi Babu Cricket Tournament in Chennai for three consecutive years (2002-2004), Under 19 one day international cricket series between Nepal and India (2003), Common wealth under 19 cricket tournament and Golf Achievers Cup (2003). The company has also assembles its resources to contributed to the success of the prestigious Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010.
Furthermore, the company inaugurated India’s biggest sports awards, Sahara India Sports Awards in 2009. This award ceremony was organized to provide recognition and encouragement to talented sportsperson of India.
