When is it the Best Time to Sell My Gold?
Gold prices have started to rise again due to the global slowdown and decline in the equity markets. According to Marcel Kreis, Credit Suisse's head of private banking for Asia-Pacific, gold prices are on track to rising to $2,000 per ounce by October 2012. Due to the recent decline in gold prices, some traders started selling gold. But analysts believe that this is not the time to sell gold. Then, what is the right time for me to sell my gold?
Factors to Look for Before Selling Gold
1) Stock market trends: Gold has been considered as a safe haven asset. Therefore, whenever the stock market starts dropping, investors turn to safe haven gold. This results in a rise in gold prices. This is very visible this the current climate where stock markets all over the world are facing huge drops. I would sell my gold whenever there is any hint of a stock market decline.
2) Times of war: Investors consider gold as a solid asset during tough times like war. They will start buying gold in case there is an impending war, which will in turn lead to a rise in the demand for gold due to fear in the minds of the people. Gold price will consequently show good advance during this time, which ensures good returns when you are selling gold.
3) Inflation: During times of inflation, traders consider buying gold as a hedge against inflation to cover their risk. This pushes gold prices further. I can use this opportunity to sell my gold, as it will provide me good returns.
4) Economic downturn: Any economic downturn will push the gold price up due to its safe haven status. During the recent economic downturn across the world, investors started buying gold, which resulted in a strong price rise. Therefore, such economic conditions can be capitalized on to sell my gold.
5) Jewelry Demand: Demand for gold is largely dependent on jewelry demand across the world. If the jewelry demand is rising, the prices of gold will automatically rise. Any signs of a drop in jewelry demand can be taken as the best time to sell.
6) Supply Factor: Like other commodities, gold prices are also affected by demand and supply factors. Drop in supply will cause the prices to rise. A trader should carefully analyze the demand/supply factors for selling gold at the right time.
Therefore, before selling gold, look at the stock markets and the economy. Read up as much as you can about what experts are forecasting and then decide whether it is the right time to sell.
