Tights – a Complete World

Garments are many and their purposes are various. While some are protective in nature, there are the ones that are fashion statements while serving a specific purpose. Tights are garments that are worn on the lower part of the body and are used as a protective piece of clothing, forming a complete cover from the hips or waist downwards to the heels. Tights derive their name from their texture and the way they are used to completely embrace the lower part of the body tightly, leaving no space between the body and the garment. Tights were, historically, predominantly worn by European men centuries earlier, used with a specific purpose of covering the lower part of the body up close, especially when they rode on horses. Later, tights were worn more by women than by men, while in this modern age, they have come to be known as being unisex, specifically in the sporting arena and used by athletes.

There is considered to be a difference between tights and pantyhose, though the difference is more American than a universal one. Pantyhose is a name used to refer to tights that are thinner and slimmer in texture, while the garments that are visibly thicker are referred to as tights. Depending on the purpose for which they are used, tights could also be classified as running tights, cycling tights and so on. However, beyond the purpose, there are other classifications that indicate the way they look when worn and also based on their texture and the way they are designed. Tights could also be classified on the finish that they are given as also based on the size or the accessories that go with them.

The most common classification of tights tends to be based on their texture, on whether they are solid, coloured and translucent or if they are completely opaque. Sheer Tights are the ones that are see through and are worn to expose the underlying skin in a sexy fashion. Opaque tights are just that – opaque, taking their own colour rather than exposing the skin that lies beneath. However, they are not thick like pantyhose and are slim and slender. There are tights that take the shape and design of fishnets, which are available in a range of attractive colours and are hot properties in the fashion town. There are, of course, sexy tights, suspender tights, footless tights as well as the plus size ones. Whatever your needs are, you would have them right for you.
