Writing Eulogy for the Deceased

Eulogy is a piece of writing that is delivered in the funeral to commemorate the deceased. It can also be delivered in the memorial services. This piece of writing is usually delivered by someone who has remained utterly close to the deceased. Normally eulogy can contain the history, details about work/family/friends, memories, and poems, songs, touching quotes or writings of the deceased. There is no hard and fast format or rule for writing the eulogy and there is actually nothing called the “perfect eulogy.” Anything that comes directly from the heart for the fond memories and comforts of the deceased is called the perfect form of eulogy speech.

In order to write a good eulogy, you should first and foremost understand that this form of writing is actually a subject of honor. It brings back the memories of deceased and paints biography of him/her in the minds of attendants. Therefore, these can be anything ranging from jokes you shared with the deceased to the stories that you would love to narrate. Therefore, while you are supposed to deliver the eulogy, you should first and foremost relate and try to connect with the deceased. It is important that in order to write and deliver well, you should live the memories again and recall things that you shared like humorous anecdotes, touching tales and most commonly how deceased lived through certain moments.

Usually, you should have the information like the age, education interests, hobbies, accomplishments and other close relationships of the deceased person. You might have made a rough note about writing the eulogy for deceased, but once the rough draft is available, it is important to organize it perfectly into the speech that will be admired by everyone. Always remember that your eulogy is like your last dedication to the deceased and also a piece of speech that is comforting, soothing and sympathizing with the friends, family and very close ones of the person who has died. Write the speech as if you are talking to the deceased and also his/her family members. Visualize the person standing there and try to understand how and what he/she would have expected you to share with his/her friends and family.

No doubt, writing eulogy can be difficult because more than anything it compels you to go through the pain of death of the person again. Sometimes you might run out of words. These eulogy samples can allow you to finalize your speech and can offer you the right theme as well. Is it important to review and rehearse it? Well, yes! Once you have written it, it is good to review, re-read and rehearse it. Make sure that you manage your voice quality as well. Your voice should be compassionate, comforting, playful, sympathizing and friendly at the right places. In case you cannot remember the eulogy, make sure that you have prepared the back-up speech as well.
