What is a Personal Licence
Author: hostarticles | Posted: 27.04.2012Personal license is granted to the individuals to authorize them for supplying alcohol. The Licensing Act 2003 established this license regime. In the broader sense, Personal Licence is different from the license that is granted to the premises to supply alcohol. A personal license holder has the greater flexibility to move around and can work on the alcohol supply business from other places. However, if you have a premise license, you need to cancel and re-register and take license for the new place. This license empowers the lawmakers and the police to deal with the license holders are not abiding by the law.
Other licensable activities like late night entertainment setups or supplying alcohol in the clubs, pubs etc. do not come under the personal license. To run those shows the individual needs to have separate license, which is different from personal license. However, personal license holder is allowed to conduct these types of events by furnishing a temporary event notice. 50 temporary events notices are allowed for a personal license holder. Whereas this number is limited to five for those, who has licenses other than personal license.
A personal license is valid for 10 years and can be renewed for further 10 years, if there are no complaints or illegal activity cases registered against the license holder. To apply for the license, the applicant should download a form from the website and submit the duly filled form with a fee. The same fee is applicable for the renewal as well.
There is test that is conducted for the Personal Licence applicant to check if they are aware of the law and the social responsibilities. If any applicant is failed to clear the test the license is not granted.
