Things to Do in Palawan
Author: DirectRooms1 | Posted: 29.11.2011There is a wealth of activities on a holiday to Palawan. Hotels have been developed to cater for the huge variety of sporting activities that are available in this idyllic spot, such as scuba diving and reef expeditions, so it is possible to spend the entire holiday either in or on the sea.
However, there is more to Palawan than sea and sand. The islands are full of rare wildlife, such as the saltwater crocodile and the sea cow, and many sanctuaries have been set up to protect them. A visit to one or more of these sanctuaries is a very good way to get up close to some of these unique species. If you are staying in hotels in Palawan, they will have plenty of information on the nearest one.
The Palawan islands are surrounded by coral reefs, and the best ones can be seen at the Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park, which has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status.
Busuanga Island is a favourite destination for tourists, and is not only home to the Calauit Game Preserve but off its shores are the wrecks of Japanese ships sunk in WW2. These relics of the South Pacific conflict are very popular for diving expeditions.
Island hopping is a great way to spend a lazy day, and some resort hotels in Palawan offer full day boat excursions with lunch provided.
For history buffs, there are three forts in the Palawan Islands: the Taytay, the Cuyo and the Cagayanchillo Forts date from the 16th century.
