Shopping in Chester
One of the main pastimes for many visitors is shopping, and with the survival of the medieval ‘rows’, with shops on two levels along the main street, it is certainly a unique experience. The city is the place to go for those designer labels or those unique items which cannot be found anywhere else, although there is also an abundance of high street names for those who need to make their cash stretch a little further.
History in Chester
No visit to Chester would be complete without a walk along the Roman wall. Large parts of the wall have survived and the views from the wall give a completely different perspective on the city. In some sections there are shops which can only be accessed from the wall. The Roman Amphitheatre is also worth a visit as it is still being excavated so visitors can see the archaeologists at work.
Sport in Chester
Whilst Chester is not usually noted for its sport, there are opportunities for sports fans to see the local teams play. Chester City Football Club is located at Deva Stadium close to the city centre. Alternatively, the area is well known for horse racing. Chester Racecourse is also close to the city centre and there are many meetings held there each year. A day out at the races is a popular pastime for the locals.
