The Benefits of Male Hormone Therapy

There is a debate as to the benefits and risks of male hormone therapy are concerned. While some believe that the benefits outweigh the risks, others are still skeptical about its use. Interestingly one of the biggest benefits of hormone therapy, which has been seen in both men and women, is its benefit against osteoporosis. It is a disease of the bones which is resultant from low bone mineral density and makes the bones of the individual extremely weak and vulnerable to fractures. Hormone replacement therapy helps in avoiding the risk of osteoporosis to a great extent.

It is also seen that this therapy enhances lean body mass in men, something that could be of interest in those with excessive body fat. Higher lean body mass is a goal for many obesity affected men and hence testosterone therapy can actually help them in getting rid of some of that fat. However, there is no conclusive evidence as far as the effects of therapy on the strength of muscles are concerned.

There are two risks which are often talked about to a great extent with regard to hormone therapy. One of them is the risk of prostate cancer. It is said that testosterone can aggravate or activate the cancerous cells in one prostate increasing the risk to a great degree in men who have those cells in the body. So, this is one of the genuine concerns that one needs to be careful about when considering male hormone replacement therapy. On the other hand, there is not conclusive evidence about the risk of heart stroke or cardiovascular diseases in men who take this therapy. There is a risk of increased clots though, which is why one should consult an expert to make sure their body condition is properly examined and monitored.
