One of the most important skills that you need to succeed in the workplace and have a good relationship is the communication skills. Every day, we talk to people face to face and listen to them when they talk to us. So you can say that communication is an interrelated process which involves at least two people - a receiver and sender. To make it successful the receiver must understand the message that is sent by the sender. You may think that it sounds simple, but if you have been in situations where misunderstanding and confusion have occurred, you would know how much problem it causes.

Frankly, having effective communication skills is adjuratory for your success. Positive communication will certainly heighten the opportunities and growth for your career and business. Having good communication skills will enable you to get ahead in certain areas where others are less assertive. While practicing the fine art of communication, you need to keep these points in your mind.

Effective Body Language

Never shy away from the person with whom you are speaking or having a conversation. Always make sure to maintain a relaxed posture and avoid slouching one. Regardless whether you are speaking or listening, you need to ensure that your body is communicating your attentiveness by making eye contact, nodding occasionally, keeping your hands clasped in front of you rather than crossing them, not displaying nervousness like wriggling hands, picking nails, etc. These will naturally distract the concentration of the person with whom you are speaking.

Being Clear and Concise

It is important to be clear and concise while you are speaking. Always speak on important matters and say it directly. Try not to waste time by stretching the important matter with stories that could make your listener's mind to wander. Once in a while make sure to ask them whether they have understood and be willing to explain the points further. In addition the important aspect of verbal communication is the ability to practice being an active listener. Always make mental notes of key points when someone is speaks to you.

Try to be Consistent in Communicating

Sometimes the reason for your lack of proper communication skill could be the quality and quantity with which you communicate with your employees. Many people practice the ability of consistent communication by trying to be available. Try not to be afraid of the ones who voice their concerns and difficulties. But ensure you are practicing open and honest communication with those who are speaking with you.

Having the quality of being patience

While communicating with others always give them time to address their issues as well. Remaining focused on what they are trying to communicate will show that you are indeed open and ready to assist them with their issues. Many of people’s communication lines tend to break down on the side where impatience is in a rush to get out of the conversation.

Since you cannot control the other side, do yourself a favor and take a breath. The conversation you’re involved in is important. If you are confused as to what someone may be requesting, than repeat back to him or her what you think they said and ask if that is correct. Often this will inspire the speaker to be more in-depth about their needs, which will help you to understand them fully.

In short, to be successful in life, you need to communicate what you think and want effectively. A person who wants his or her ideas to be implemented may need to have good communication skills. It is indeed an important priority in life.
