It is always misunderstood by people that an injury to the bone can cause cancer. However, there is very little evidence for this. It is very likely that swelling can be caused due to injury. There are many bone diseases that are not cancer. However, they are very much related to the risk of bone cancer. There are two main diseases related to bone cancer. However, only a small risk is posed for many people. If a person has had a Paget's disease of the bone, he has a slightly increased risk of primary bone cancer. If a person is having benign bone tumor known as the Osteochondroma or Chondroma, he surely has an increased risk of developing a bone cancer called Chondrosarcoma. This is a very rare condition. There is another rare condition named the Ollier's disease. It is also known as enchondromatosis. The risk of developing a Chondrosarcoma is greatly increased.

# Radiation

Bone cancer can be caused if a person is exposed to radiation. If a person has had radiotherapy for bone cancer before, he is certainly at an increased risk for bone cancer. This is also considered to be among the important causes of bone marrow cancer. This risk is considered to very small. A great risk is posed for people who are treated at a very young age and that too with very high doses of radiotherapy. However, only one person in thousands treated with radiotherapy can get bone cancer.

# Genetic conditions

If a person is having a condition named Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, the risk for developing several cancers is greatly increased. This also includes bone cancer. Li-Fraumeni syndrome runs in families. The main cause includes the inherited gene defect. There is an eye cancer which is also known as hereditary retinoblastoma. The children are usually affected by it. The main cause is the faulty genes. If children are born with this gene defect, the risk of getting Osteosarcoma is greatly increased. Thus, one should be careful with the causes of bone marrow cancer.
