Setting Up Home in Ealing

On the western end of the London Underground, you’ll find a suburban called Ealing, which also lends its name to the Borough. It may not have quite as many attractions for visitors as some other London Boroughs, but there are still plenty of things that make this a desirable place to live in. First of all, it’s easy to get into central London from here. The district line isn’t known as being the fastest or most regularly running tube, but the Central line is generally better. Also, Ealing taxis make journeys around the clock to take passengers into the city swiftly. You might not see black cabs around here as often as you do centrally, but private hire Ealing minicabs can be called at short notice or booked in advance. This method of transport is ideal for those who work in the city and need to commute on a daily basis, and is also great for nights out.

Many of the properties in this area are Victorian townhouses, which have been renovated and divided up into flats. It’s a cheaper place to live than nearby Richmond, with rental prices similar to trendy parts of the East End such as Shoreditch and Hackney. One of the advantages of living here is that there are plenty of parks and open spaces, which you don’t always find in other parts of London. There’s an annual jazz festival in Walpole Park, as well as a Wildlife Centre. Gunnersbury Park and Osterley Park are great for summer fun and games, or long romantic walks with that special someone. If you want to see some beautifully cultivated gardens, head over to Lammas Park. For those who like the great outdoors, you have plenty of choice here! It’s especially nice to have these spaces in the warmer months, tempting people out of their homes for picnics and maybe even a bit of frisbee.

Although the nightlife in Ealing isn’t as varied as the West End, there are a few bars and pubs to choose from. Thanks to the second generation community based here, there are some nice Irish pubs; O’Neills, Finnegan’s Wake and The Firkin are all popular with a fun, relaxed atmosphere. If you prefer upmarket, trendy bars, try The North Star. If you just want a few drinks, you’ll find somewhere here to suit you, but if you’re planning a big night out with dancing, cocktails and disco balls, it’s best to jump in an Ealing taxi and head into Central London. There’s a lot more variety here, with clubs playing everything from house and techno to hard rock and pop music.

You won’t be short of places to eat out in Ealing; there are plenty of restaurants and take-aways to whet your appetite. All in all, if you set up home here, you’re not doing too badly!
