Religious Sites in Jerusalem

It would be reasonable to assume that many of the visitors staying in hotels in Jerusalem are in the city to see some of the religious sites. The churches and the Wailing Wall attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, while the tunnels of the Western Wall have only been open for a short period of time and are well worth exploring. The tours of the tunnels are very popular, so it is a good idea to book well in advance. The sights within the city are very busy, but in contrast a visit to the Garden Tomb is fairly peaceful. This is believed to be the site of the tomb of Christ and the whole area is quiet and tranquil.

Jerusalem’s Old City

No visit to Jerusalem would be complete without a trip to the Old City. Shopping here is very popular, as there is a traditional Arab Souk and a local market. The architecture of the buildings in the area will be attractive for anyone who has an interest in heritage. There are many different neighbourhoods in the city of Jerusalem and a guided tour will give the visitor a good idea of traditional Israeli life.

Jerusalem has a number of world-class museums. The Israel Museum is considered to be one of the best archaeological museums in the world and houses items such as the Dead Sea Scrolls. Archaeology enthusiasts will also appreciate the Rockefeller Archaeological Museum. The Holocaust Museum and Memorial offers an enlightening experience for those who wish to learn more about this period of history.
