Victor is an MIT alum who did his Master's research on human-machine interaction for NASA, and Shuo is a PhD candidate in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab at MIT. At GeriJoy, they have created a software service for seniors that improves their quality of life and makes it easier to connect with family. The software takes the form of an intelligent pet inside an Android tablet that interacts with people through natural conversation, requiring zero technical skills. They were able to demonstrate a variety of emotional and social improvements at a 5-star skilled nursing facility in Boston, and are now scaling up their service as part of the premier New York based healthcare accelerator, Blueprint Health.

Shuo Deng is a PhD candidate at MIT in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. With research experience from Microsoft and Qualcomm, Shuo is a seasoned expert in networks and mobile systems. She brings her extensive skill set to GeriJoy, where she works on technology development, network architecture, and security - the things that allow our social companion to engage its owner in truly intelligent and compassionate conversation.

GeriJoy makes it easy for family members to share images, emails, and other life events with their loved one. Each GeriJoy member gets their own email address and file folder that family members can easily share content with. GeriJoy alerts members of this new content, showing photos and text on the screen in an easy to view manner.

GeriJoy members can ask their companion questions at any time. If they want to know what activities are being held today, they can ask their companion and it will tell them. These capabilities are supported by live people that look up the answers and respond appropriately. This information can be presented in spoken or picture form.

GeriJoy helps assisted living facilities and nursing homes monitor residents and improve customer satisfaction and quality-of-life. Gerijoy provides tablet enabled software that enables cost-effective video surveillance and provides patients with a way to communicate with family members and a virtual caregiver.

The GeriJoy device has sophisticated software that allows the device to interact with members like a real pet would interact. Members can pet their companion, and it provides tactile reactions that create the same emotional health benefits as live pets.

GeriJoy help senior care facilities increase quality of care and improve resident quality of life.

Increase quality ratings: The GeriJoy social companion has therapeutic benefits and may even diminish dementia, improving metrics used to rate senior care facilities.

Increase family satisfaction: Family members will be able to use the GeriJoy social companion to send photos, tweets, and communicate with their loved one at any time.

Increase resident quality of life: Residents report decreased loneliness and increased positive emotions when they have access to the GeriJoy social companion.

Reduce use of psychiatric medicines: By providing residents with companionship and intellectually stimulating content, GeriJoy can naturally reduce depressive and dementia episodes.
