Wall insulation is becoming very popular. Edinburgh buildings have two kind of walls, solid or cavity. Cavity walls are more insulating as these are two walls with gap in between. With such a wall, the insulating process can be improved simply by filling the gap with rockwool or spun glass fibres. This is also a cheap process. You will be surprised to know that uninsulated walls loose around 33% of heat. Insulation of solid walls is also possible, however it is expensive. This can be done through internal insulation which reduces room dimensions. Alternatively there is external insulation in which solid foam panels or polystyrene panels are fitted externally. This will significantly increase your EPC rating.

Roof insulation is also of equal importance. Around 25% of the your homes heat escapes from the roof. Insulating the roof is relatively cheap.

Moreover, double glazing your windows will also make your flat/apartment more energy efficient. When getting a task like this done, you must always insure that it is of a good quality. Cheap glazing will make your property loose value.

It is also very important to have an energy efficient boiler. A new efficient condensing boiler will help you save around £240 anually. Installing such a boiler will be expwnsive initially but with the passage of time you will realize that it was totally worth the cost.

Having thermostatic radiator valves will also help you save money as they keep bedrooms and unused rooms at a lower temperature.

Replacing your old bulbs with energy efficient bulbs will also make your home energy efficient.
