Carpet Cleaning Bristol: Dry or Wet Cleaning

When you're getting carpets cleaned in Bristol, where the constant wet weather and proximity to the coast keep the air damp and salty, there are two main options that are suggested by professional carpet cleaning service providers: Wet and Dry. Both methods are effective, safe, efficient and each is good in its own way. Certain types of carpets may require only dry cleaning, while heavy-duty cleaning, stain removal and removing dirt, dust and accumulated grime or grease may require the wet process. We can examine the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Dry Cleaning: The biggest advantage of this method is that it is a quick-fix solution. Generally, a standard size carpet does not take more than half-an-hour to get dry-cleaned. Since there is no dampness, the room can be used immediately and the carpet does not lose its shape or size from shrinkage. The carpet is first thoroughly vacuumed to soften and loosen the pile, then an organic, allergen-free crystal cleaner is sprayed on. The carpet cleaner is run over the carpet and this removes all the contaminants, dirt and debris, leaving the carpet fresh and clean. This method is suitable for all types of fabric, since there is no rinsing or wetting. However, it is considered a temporary method of tackling the problem of accumulated grease, dirt and grime and does not remove stubborn stains. A bonnet cleaner is used in this method, and this may leave marks or grooves on the carpet. One method that's similar to dry cleaning is the absorbent pad cleaner method. A cleaning spray is first spritzed all over the carpet and this loosens dirt and grime. A cotton pad is rotated over the carpet and it absorbs the loose or dissolved dirt. In this method, drying is complete in about an hour.

Wet Cleaning: In this method, hot water at very high pressure is mixed with a dirt solvent chemical and sprayed on the carpet. After the prescribed time, the liquid is sucked out from the carpet by a portable heavy-duty vacuum cleaner, leaving the carpet fresh and clean. However, it may take a day or more for the carpet to dry. Unless you have a basement or drying area in the house, the damp carpet in your home is not a very comfortable prospect. Make sure that the cleaning services personnel return as soon as the prescribed time is over to check on the status of drying. This method is good to clean very dirty and grimy carpets, but it can lead to shrinkage and spoiling of the jute backing of the carpet if there is one. If the drying is not even, you can have damp patches remaining in the carpet which could attract mold and other micro-organisms. Also the wet-cleaning equipment may be difficult to bring into smaller houses and apartment buildings.
