Cardiff City Centre Things to Do
Author: DirectRooms1 | Posted: 10.01.2012Hotels in Cardiff City Centre are ideal as a base for exploring this fabulous city, with its wide range of attractions. There are so many things for the visitor to do here, that it’s difficult to cover them all but here are just a few ideas.
Sport, culture and entertainment are all taken very seriously in Cardiff, and these are what give the city its unique identity and cohesion. The city centre itself is packed with things to do, and other activities, such as whisky tasting and abseiling, are on offer within just a few square miles of this central district.
History and Heritage
Visitors to Cardiff with an interest in history and heritage are spoilt for choice. There are numerous historic sites, including picturesque castles that rival those in Germany, and old stately homes that have come under the protective wing of heritage organisations. These include Cardiff Castle in the centre of town, and the impossibly romantic Castell Coch in the surrounding woodland. Caerphilly Castle, Britain’s second largest Castle, is close by and is everyone’s idea of what a castle should be.
The Rhondda Heritage Park is easily accessed from Cardiff city centre, and the Roman Legionary Museum just east of the city is a must-see if you want to discover what the Romans did for the Welsh, and these isles in general.
Sports
Of course, for modern fans of rugby and football, Cardiff is something of a Mecca with its two stadiums and resident world-class rugby and football clubs. When there are matches on at the Millennium Stadium, there is often standing room only in the pubs, and the atmosphere in the whole town is electric. Cricket and athletics are also well represented in the two stadiums, and there is also the famous Sports Village, which has an ice rink and Olympic pool, and the White Water Centre with its Olympic canoe slalom.
