Granittrock Music Festival

Held in the Lillomarka forest over the course of two days, this music festival has the goal of being a festival for everyone. As such, there is no age limit, space is almost unlimited, and it costs nothing to go. This festival is a draw for people staying at any of the hotels in Oslo, no matter their financial position. Families with children will also enjoy the fact that no alcohol is served at the festival. The average attendance is 20,000 people per day. Rock music is the main kind of music featured at this festival, though hip-hop is also important to their programme. Visitors to Oslo in the early autumn will get a kick out of this festival, which began in 2005.

Inferno Metal Festival

This contemporary heavy metal music festival takes place over the course of Easter week. This festival is well located, as Oslo has always been a centre for the most cutting edge metal music in the world. Metal lovers from all over the planet flock to this festival every spring, and the roster of bands reflects this international appeal. Wednesday night is the club night, with a variety of small venues hosting shows. Thursday through Saturday sees the main events, in which the Rockefeller and John DEE centres host the live entertainment. Forty bands in four days mean that there is a lot to take in. This festival is ideal for any fan of metal music. On Thursday and Friday, the Sentrum Scene plays host to the Inferno Metal Expo, which offers visitors some daytime activities.
