Calella Town Centre Things to Do

Spain is definitely a land of things to do and Calella is no exception. The town may be small but it has a big heart with a decent offering of history, activities and entertainment that is sure to keep every person in the group happy.

Calella beach is a place to have fun with the numerous water activities, sports and beach games on offer. For families at hotels in Calella city centre, there are often organised beachside activities for kids to keep them occupied while mum and dad slip out for a little relaxation of their own.

Bring your camera as you step back in time amongst the narrow cobblestone streets, tiny bodegas and traditional Spanish shops. There are numerous historical monuments to visit in the Old Town. A trip to Torretes de Calella will prove to be fun. These 19th century towers were once part of the town’s communication system which relayed messages via flags and lights. The site was also used to keep an eye out for Algerian pirates. While you’re here, stop in the nearby lighthouse. This beautiful lighthouse was erected in 1859 and is still used today.

The rest of the town has other great sites, restaurants, shops and parks that are perfect to relax in. A stroll down the Manuel Puigvery promenade is also a great way to spend the afternoon. If the wear and tear of the day finds you in need of a nap, not to worry; mid-day siestas are common practice in Spain and prove to be a great way to re-energise for the upcoming evening.

For those who choose to skip an afternoon rest, why not head down to the beach again and join in the local dancing? Every Sunday during the summer months, visitors can witness the famous Sardana dance that takes place along the beach. This beloved Catalonian dance often expands to include everyone and anyone who is willing to give it a try!
