Antalya City Centre Things to Do

Antalya is fast becoming a top visitor destination, especially for those looking for hot, short breaks in the sun. The exchange rate is especially good for British tourists, with a tight budget going a long way here.

The Turks are enormously friendly and welcoming, and there are plenty of things to see and do. Both stunning natural attractions and some of the most impressive historical sites on the planet are here. So whether your forte is archaeology, sun worship, or anything in between, you are bound to have a great time when staying at hotels in Antalya city centre.

Visit the Turtles

At the nearby village of Cirali, on the seashore visitors flock to see newly-hatched Loggerhead turtles, especially in September. They wriggle from their shells and make a dash for the water under the full moon. In the spring, female turtles can be seen struggling up the beach to lay their eggs, seemingly oblivious to the flashlights and crowds as they obey this ancient call of nature.

Old Town

The old town, or Kaleici is remarkably well preserved, despite the huge numbers of tourists that threatened to swamp it, especially in the 1980s. The old Turkish and Greek houses along the winding alleys have been renovated and preserved and the area has won prizes for tourism.

Lara Beach Sandcastle Competition

Between May and October the biggest sandcastle competition in the world is held on Lara Beach. This attracts sculptors from all over the world, working to a different theme each year. Chinese dragons and mythical heroes as well as castles have been created over the years.

Walk the Lycian Way

Since 1996, the Lycian way walk, between Antalya and Fethiye has become one of the best long walks in the world. At 320 miles, it takes in stunning coastal scenery and many historic sites that are difficult or impossible to reach by car.
