Movie Review (Synopsis):
Shakey (screen name) played by a rescue dog named Ebony from Albuquerque Animal Welfare, NM Shelter. Rescued when she was just a few weeks old, Ebony is a mixed breed. Story of the movie revolves around three family members, a father, a daughter and a dog. Certain financial constrains in the family forced the pet parents to find a new home for Shakey, which was the beginning of the adventure filled with funs in ‘I Heart Shakey’. Though acted well in the movie, Shakey faced some trouble of acting angry with the villains while filming as she always licked people because of her good nature.
Single father J.T. and his precocious daughter Chandler move from a small town to Chicago with their lovable family mutt Shakey. After missing the fine print in their rental contract, J.T. is forced to find Shakey a new home. Chandler hatches a plan to keep Shakey and teach J.T. a valuable lesson about loyalty and the importance of keeping family together.
Shakey is a family film about a 35-year-old widower named J.T. O'Neil, his precocious 10-year-old daughter and their devoted mutt Shakey. After moving from a small town to Chicago and missing the fine print in their rental contract, J.T. is forced to try and get rid of his lovable pooch. Shakey and Chandler won't have it and hatch a plan to keep Shakey and teach J.T. a valuable lesson about loyalty and the importance of keeping family together.
This may be Cooper's first feature-length film as a director, although he has bona fide Hollywood experience on his resume. Prior to moving to Wheaton five years ago, he logged time as an executive at Fox (where he worked on "Fight Club" and "The Thin Red Line") before taking a job at Digital Domain (a digital effects company formerly headed by James Cameron) where he was the executive producer on the 2003 coming-of-ager "Secondhand Lions," which had a budget of $31 million. (The budget for "Shakey" is $500,000.) Cooper's wife DeAnna (who is a producer on "Shakey") is another studio veteran who worked in the finance departments at Fox and New Line Cinema. "We were kind of studio cronies," he said.
Originally from Toledo, the couple left L.A. for Chicago because "I'm a Midwesterner and I didn't like raising my kids there." (Cooper currently heads up the producing concentration at Columbia College Chicago.)
After landing his dream job in Chicago, JT has to make the hardest decision of his life by moving his family of three to the big city from Toledo, Ohio.Shortly after they settle into their new luxurious home, they realize they have missed the fine print in the rental contract stating “no pets.”
The film was shot in the Chicago area and features stars like Steve Lemme (Broken Lizard comedian, “Super Troopers,” “Beerfest”), Steve Guttenberg (“Police Academy” franchise, “3 Men and a Baby”), Beverly D’Angelo (“National Lampoon’s Vacation” movies), Alfonso Arau (“Three Amigos!”), 12-year-old acting phenomenon Rylie Behr, and a rescue dog named Ebony.
The world premier red carpet movie screening of the 3-D film “I Heart Shakey” will offer movie goers the chance to rub elbows with some Hollywood actors and raise funds for a local nonprofit. DuPage PADS is hosting the red carpet event Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hollywood Palms. Before the movie screening there will be autograph and photo opportunities. “I Heart Shakey” is a family-friendly film about a 35-year-old widower, his daughter and their loyal dog Shakey. The cast includes Hollywood veterans Beverly D’Angelo and Steve Guttenberg and Steve Lemme. Tickets for the red carpet showing are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.
