Don’t Fix what Isn’t Broken: the Future of Jewelry Boxes
Jewelry boxes have been the way they are for a long time. We all know that many of them feature classic, timeless designs that are as beautiful now as they would have been fifty years ago and will likely be as beautiful fifty years from now. This is because when you’ve got a good thing going you don’t want to mess it up by changing it unnecessarily.
Jewelry boxes have long been a reliable and safe method of storing jewelry. Their design has been modulated and perfected over several generations to arrive at the looks and design we know today. What would jewelry boxes of the future look like? One can only imagine.
Invisible Jewelry Boxes: Cloaking technology may enable us to have jewelry boxes that cannot be seen at all. It would definitely mask your jewelry from prying eyes (they wouldn’t even know it was there) but then you wouldn’t have anything to admire. It could be one of the most beautiful jewelry boxes in the world it wouldn’t matter because you wouldn’t be able to see it.
Quantum Jewelry Boxes: Some jewelry boxes are designed as space savers but this is ridiculous. Jewelry boxes designed with quantum technology could be the size of a trinket box and have the capacity of a large jewelry armoire. Of course, you might have trouble opening the right “drawer” to find what you want. You might also lose it and your jewelry along with it.
Teleporting Jewelry Boxes: You wouldn’t need a travel jewelry box anymore but then again there might be a rash in disappearing-and-not-reappearing jewelry boxes.
Voice-Activated Jewelry Boxes: These might not be so bad as long as no misunderstandings ensued. Rings and earrings may sound the same but you definitely don’t want to mix them up.
Do jewelry boxes really need to change so much. The rest of the world seems to have hopped on the technology bandwagon but jewelry boxes really seem to be fine the way they are. Some things don’t get old or need improvement and jewelry boxes fit right into that category. If they had all of the bells and whistles that many devices have today (they even have refrigerators with built-in computer screens now) they would not be the things we know and love.
Some things don’t need improvement. Jewelry boxes are fine the way they are, and hopefully they won’t change so drastically any time soon.
