How to Keep Your Stainless Steel Garbage Can from Stinking!
If you're having trouble keeping your Garbage Can odor free here are a few tips you can use. In most every case the smell Garbage Cans be taken care of within minutes using these great suggestions. In no particular order here they are:
1. Change the bag daily. This may seem like a no brainer but you'd be surprised at the number of people who actually leave trash, including food leftovers, in the garbage for weeks at a time. It takes food and liquids about a day to start smelling awful. So keep that Garbage Can supplied with fresh bags.
2. Use good quality trash bags. It's easy to try and save a dollar or two on those cheaper bags but as we all know they just don't cut the mustard when it comes to holding trash in. They tear too easily. If this happens while in the bin fluids can leak to the bottom and go unnoticed for several days until the smell shows up.
3. Use a Garbage Can with a removable plastic insert. Most stainless steel Garbage Cans come with these inserts and they make cleaning much simpler. Just take them out about twice per month put a little soap inside and rinse it with a garden hose. Use a new toilet bowl brush to scrub the inside. If it's cold outside the bathtub or utility sink are some good standbys.
4. Clean any liquid out immediately. Once you find that your trashcan has some fluid in the bottom no matter how much, get it cleaned out by following the steps in #3 above.
5. Stop putting food in the can. Use a separate container for throwing out left over's and uneaten food. Food can spoil and create a bad smell in as little as 4 hours depending on the temperature.
6. Stop odor before it begins. A few things to put in your litter to trap odor before it starts. Place an odor eating insole (those things you put in shoes) in the bottom of your trash bin. A small open box of baking soda inside the can under the bag will also help keep odors in. You can also spray it daily with a disinfectant spray.
By following these simple suggestions your stainless steel Garbage Cans will be odor free in no time.
