Does an alarm system help you during the time of flood?
Water is one of the basic necessities of living things. We use water for almost everything. I can never imagine a life without water. Drinking, bathing, cleaning and cooking; all of these require water. When there is a raise in the normal water level what happens? Floods!!! Flood is a rise in the water level in an area where there was little water or none. Floods occur throughout the world and cause severe damage to human lives, livestock and property. The only means of travelling during floods are boats, helicopters and rafts. Floods are caused due to various reasons like
•Rainfall
•Rivers rising
•Ice melting
•Tides
•Tsunamis
Can you see your house devastated? All your favorite things drenched in the muddy filled water or a few things washed away by the floods. Yes floods can overturn a car and take along with them. Don’t you remember the Tsunami? Thousands and thousands of people lost their lives. Many of them lost their beloved ones and shelter. Once the floods were over many did not have a home to go. Financial losses are too high. Floods interfere with the drainage and sewage system and pollute the water. Survivors get attacked with several diseases that spread like wildfire. Wildlife areas are heavily polluted or completely destroyed. When compared to tornadoes, hurricanes and lightning more people have lost their lives to floods.
Ice melting or Global Warming is a major problem that is happening now. Due to the changes in the climatic and weather conditions the ice has started melting and scientists find the water level in oceans rising at a steady pace. Even wildlife find difficult to survive. We have to join hands in order to protect our world against a major disaster. This is happening due to overheat. The amount of gases that we release and the chemicals together has started effecting nature. If the water level keeps rising at this pace, we can never find many of our countries. They will all be buried under the ocean.
Rainfall cannot be controlled by humans. But we can store rain water by several methods. Every house can take steps to collect rain water which can be further used for irrigation and other purposes. We use large gallons of water in food processing units, factories and many more areas. Rain water collected can be used for all this. How to control Flood? Flood- control dams have been built across the rivers so that the additional water gets collected in the dams. Canals are used to help drain extra water. Avoid living near coastal areas, rivers, streams or middle of wetlands. Preventing soil erosion helps in controlling flood to a certain extent. Planting lot of trees plays an important role. An increase in the storage capacity of man-made lakes also helps to reduce floods.
Never return to your house once the flood stops. There are chances that it might come back at any time. Do not start using your utilities as soon as you enter your home. Have an electrician come home and check all the lines and then start using them. Make sure to clean your entire house. Clean, disinfect and dry them before use. Flood is a natural disaster which cannot be prevented by mankind. Precautionary steps can be taken to avoid them. But you can prevent water and property damage to your home by subscribing to ADT Home Security Systems. They have an inbuilt alarm siren which will give us a warning about the floods.
