Of the many areas of your home, your kitchen and bathroom arguably have the most in common with each other. Both of them have tiles, plumbing, sinks, water systems, et cetera. Thus, they have similar renovation procedures, as follows.

Determine the design and layout. Decide whether you want a partial or complete renovation. Measure the area to be renovated, and take note of the positions of implements such as plumbing and electrical appliances. Sketch a plan, calculate how much you’ll need to spend on materials, look for the best contractors in Annapolis, Maryland (MD), and show them your plan. Aside from the materials you’ll need and their services’ total cost, ask them to give you an estimate of how long it will take them to do the job, so that you can schedule it accordingly and make the necessary adjustments.

Repair what needs to be repaired. You don’t want to finish your renovation project only to realize that your new countertop is sitting over a rusty drainage system, or your hot shower isn’t actually working properly. Patch holes in the plumbing, fix the electrical wiring, or replace cracked tiles. Better yet, do all of these. Get your kitchen or bathroom ready for installation of new tiles, wall panels, or flooring.

Remove all objects that may interfere with the renovation. Temporarily relocate your kitchen appliances, utensils, cabinetry, et cetera. Same goes for those items located in the bathroom. If you need to resize anything, such as doors and windows, do these first before you install anything new.

Demolition and Installation. Shut off any sources of power in your Annapolis kitchen and bath for your workers’ safety. Renovation is best done in broad daylight. If you’re going to renovate your walls, carefully peel it off with a crowbar. For the countertops and other tiled areas, break them with a sledgehammer. After you remove debris from the demolition, install your new sinks, tiles, walls, et cetera.

Clean up. Sweep away any debris from the installation area. Re-install fixed implements, such as cabinets, in the bath and kitchen Annapolis houses have; return your kitchen utensils, bathroom appliances, soap, et cetera. Don’t forget to check the results of your project before you let your workmen leave; if you’re satisfied, thank them for a job well done.

Though you have the last word on the result of your project, it’s best if you ask help from services that provide home improvement Annapolis MD residents trust. For more information on renovation, read the step-by-step guide in homebuying.about.com/od/investmentproperties/ss/102108_Kitchen.htm.
