In the furniture market today seating arrangements can sometimes feel too similar or the same. When grouping together the furniture in our living rooms we can often want something that is a bit different but still very chic and stylish. Equally in the bedroom a chaise longue can be extremely beneficial to your home’s decor. Mixing up the types of furniture in your favourite place of rest can have a radical transformation on the whole room itself. A French chaise longue is the perfect solution for predicaments such as these! This article hopes to provide you with a brief history of the ever popular chaise longue and what particular styles are on offer today.

A familiar associate of the day bed, the humble chaise longue has certainly defined its presence throughout history. Stretching back to the ancient Greeks, Gods were often depicted in art as divine beings whilst reclining on furniture that had remarkable resemblances to the chaise we all love today. The term chaise longue derives from the French, literally meaning “long chair” and took much influence from the Rococo period. This period was famous for mixing delicate and playful natural forms whilst moving away from the decorative symmetry that featured commonly throughout the Baroque era. Standing between a normal sofa and long club chair, the chaise longue is designed for one person to recline on. With back support and enough space to stretch one’s legs they make the perfect alternative to a bed when an afternoon snooze is in order!

With regards to styles there is an abundance to choose from. For those who prefer simplistic designs and refined colours opt for basic curves and straight lines with colours such as whites, creams or silvers. These come upholstered in a variety of materials, but for refined tastes invest in soft velvets or linens. These can sit beautifully in a bed or living room without taking the focus away from any other stunning furniture that may be present in the same space. If you require a chaise with more of a bold style impact why not opt for more daring shapes and finishes. Commonly paired with designs such as these are bold colours such as gold, coffees and even stripes! Distressed finishes on the frame also looks amazing, adding an extra bit of character every home desires.Materials within this bracket can feature deep buttoned satins or even shimmering velvets, all will bring a slice of French beauty to your chosen space. Transform your interior today with a glamorous chaise longue, they really will bring a new dimension to your home and wow your guests!
