Ingredients That a Skin Cream Should Not Have!
Did your anti wrinkle cream leave rashes on the skin? May be you should have considered inquiring about its contents beforehand.
People, especially women, desire to have a youthful appearance. This makes them use different sorts of cosmetics, such as sunscreen lotions, creams, and face wash. Knowing what constitutes a skin cream, or a lotion is extremely important for getting desired results. Some women do look out for the chemical constituents of a cream before buying it, though they do not know what part of it can do wonders to their skin, and what can render it ugly and inflamed.
Prior to choosing a skin product, be it an instant wrinkle remover, or a blemish balm cream, ensure that it does not contain the following:
Alcohol
Alcohol is not just harmful for liver and heart, its use can be equally detrimental to our skin's health. Alcohol is added to skin creams and lotions for smoothness. However, some particular alcohol derivatives, such as SD alcohol, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, and alcohol denat are very harmful for skin.
Our skin needs moisture for staying smooth and firm. Some alcohols, on the other hand, have a dehydrating effect on the skin and body. Alcohols damage hyaluronic acid, a skin component responsible for tissue repair and water retention. This changes skin's pH level and reduces its sebum content, leading to excessive moisture loss. In addition, alcohols decrease the amount of antioxidants, which are required to protect the skin from free radicals. As a result, acne, irritations, and wrinkles blemish our skin. Imagine what an anti wrinkle cream with such alcohols would do to your skin. It will create more wrinkles!
Parabens
These are chemical compounds that inhibit microbial growth. These compounds are cost effective as well. For these reasons, they are widely used as preservatives in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. However, parabens happen to imitate estrogen, due to which girls reach puberty early. The same aspect is speculated to be the reason for breast cancer in many women. Although parabens' carcinogenic property has not been proved as yet, avoiding its use is advisable as a precaution.
Mineral oil
Mineral oil, or liquid paraffin is a by-product of crude petroleum. Many skin care products, such as moisturizers and anti-aging creams, contain mineral oil. It is added to creams and lotions because it forms a layer on the skin, and makes it retain the required moisture. On the other hand, mineral oil also acts as a hindrance to the normal moisturizing mechanism of the skin. Its unpleasant and harmful effects include blocked pores and dryness. You do not want your anti wrinkle cream to do that, do you?
Dioxane
1,4-dioxane, a derivative of coconut oil, often forms a part of skin creams and lotions. Production of most ingredients of skin creams involves ethoxylation, which forms dioxane as a by-product. As a result, small amounts of 1,4-dioxane often contaminate skin care products. High concentration of 1,4-dioxane in these creams can cause skin cancers.
Before you choose another lotion, or an anti wrinkle cream, make sure that it is free from harmful ingredients.
