Boarding School: a Home Away Home for Students
Reena has just been promoted to the 5th standard this year. She is a very bright child and also has a keen interest towards exploring the world. Reena lives in a remote village of our country where there is not ample scope for higher studies. Reena’s father, the landlord of the village, is also worried about her further studies. Someone suggested her father to send her to the boarding school in the nearby city so that she could get good education from there. Being the only daughter of her parents, Reena has never been to any unknown place before. So her parents are reluctant to send her to the boarding school. After having some discussion with her friends and near ones, Reena’s father finally agreed to send her to a boarding school, though he still had some doubts in his mind. But after visiting the school and showing Reena’s academic growth, now he is happy that he had taken a right decision for his daughter’s life.
This is not about Reena’s father only, but many other parents who are just as reluctant to send their kids to boarding schools. People sometime develop some negative notions about the boarding school; but a proper detail about the facilities may help them to come out of that notion.
The environment of the boarding schools is a little different from the normal schools. There the students are under the close supervision of the teachers and monitors 24 hours of the time. These kinds of schools are best in regard to their security measures. There are a host of benefits that these schools offer to the students. Some of the benefits are briefly discussed below:-
1-Boarding schools have special arrangements for the individual care of the students so that each student can develop fully, both mentally and physically, to its highest extent. Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya in Narendrapur, West Bengal, is famous worldwide for its best education standards and boarding facilities
2-These kinds of schools offer 24*7 supervision over the students and ensure full security to each of them
3-Boarding schools offer a home away home environment that helps the students to adjust into the environment soon. The teachers and the students develop a close bond because of the ample amount of time that they spend together. This kind of interaction also hastens the academic growth of the students
4-These schools have special arrangements for sports and extra-curricular activities. Students can chose their favorite activities from a number of activities offered to them
5-In a boarding school, students from a wide range of geographic, racial and socio-economic background get admitted. This benefits the students to learn about different cultures and people in a very early age
6-The state in which a school is located will have legislated minimum requirements for curriculum content which every school must meet or exceed. 99% of the boarding schools exceed those minimum requirements. There are several flavors of academics to be found in boarding schools.
Education takes on a broad meaning at boarding schools. Boarding schools recognize this - they often have an explicit mission to not only educate students in the classroom, but to also help them become better-rounded individuals.
