Know about Los Angeles Speeding Ticket Cost and the Red Light
And if a driver is caught running the red light, they could suffer even steeper penalties depending on their driving record. But some argue that getting caught running a red light is even more annoying now that some cities have moved to using the red light cameras to catch drivers breaking the law.
Los Angeles speeding ticket cost is competitive with the national average and so are the penalties for running the red light on the street corner. But the city had an uphill battle in the early part of this decade when city officials started using red light cameras to catch drivers who ran red lights. The cameras were posted at intersections throughout the city. When cars crossed the intersections they were always on camera because of motion sensors located inside each camera. These cameras could also catch drivers speeding through intersections, which some argued could increase a Los Angeles speeding ticket cost.
As cars passed, these nearly invisible cameras were monitoring their move as they sped or ran the red light at each and every intersection. Drivers unknowingly were caught breaking the law, and many were angry that a computer system was watching and catching them in the act. The camera would take a picture of the car’s license plate and then issue a ticket to the person who owned the car.
Although these red light cameras sound good in theory, there are many issues that arose once the cameras were put into action. A lot of drivers were given tickets that were not rightfully theirs. If someone let a daughter or family member or a friend drive their car and that person broke the law, the car’s owner was issued the ticket even if they were not driving at the time the car was caught.
In addition, many drivers felt that if they were not caught by an actual police officer on duty, and didn’t have a chance to see the police car and correct their behavior, the tickets should not be valid. But nonetheless, drivers who had broken the law were getting tickets from a computer monitoring system. A few days or about a week after speeding or running a red light, drivers would receive the ticket in the mail.
After many issues, problems and arguments, the city removed and stopped using the red light cameras. The practice was discontinued in 2011. But that doesn’t change the Los Angeles speeding ticket cost to any drivers who were issued tickets by the cameras. Anyone who was caught running the red light was still liable for their actions. Those tickets are still valid and drivers who were caught must still pay the tickets to avoid any penalties or future problems with the law.
