Flinders Island – One of the More Popular Tourist Destinations in Tasmania

Want to run away from the scorching summer heat? Then why not head towards Flinders Island? This is one of the most beautiful Australian islands. It is located within the Bass Strait. From Cape of Portland, the island is near about 20 kilometers. From Portland, head towards north-eastern part of Tasmania, and flinders island can well be located.

On the eastern part of Bass Strait lies a set of 54 islands. These islands are collectively called as Furneaux Group. A British Navigator by the name Tobias Furneaux was the first one to locate these set of islands. Soon afterwards, the entire group of islands (54 in total) was named after this famous navigator. Flinders is the largest island within this group. In fact, it is an extremely popular tourist destination within Australia. There are tourists who come to Australia only to visit this beautiful island.

This beautiful island enjoys a tropical climate with temperature being consistent all throughout the year. Winter season is from May till October while November to April is summer. However, there are no extremities to face during winter or summer season. During winter, temperature varies in between 6 -9 degree centigrade (nighttime) and 13-16 degree centigrade (daytime). During summer, daytime temperature lies in between 16 -22 degree centigrade. However, nights are relatively cooler with temperature dropping in between 10 -14 degree centigrade. Precipitation is minimal with 760 mm (approx.) all throughout the year.

Holiday home, inns, cottage, tavern, and some spa hotels are available within different parts of this island. Within Flinders Island, most of the quality accommodation facilities are available within Palana Road area. Spa hotels are obviously expensive in rates. However, guest house and inns can be the best lodging option for those who are looking for cheaper lodging facilities.
