Know About Scion Racing Events Around the World
The popular Toyota Scion brand is also a successful participant in a number of racing events around the US and even the world. Some of the top drivers in various disciplines drive the Toyota Scion in their events, and fans of the brand can follow their favourites via the Scion Racing blog.
Scion Racing's team take part in a variety of different competitions that cover all types of driving skills. As well as being a great way for Toyota to raise the profile of their Scion brand, by using the vehicles in a variety of driving events, they are obviously trying to show the car's versatility. After all, any vehicle that can take part on drag, drift and rally car racing must have a few tricks up its sleeve.
Everyone knows what drag racing is, but not many people realize that there is a serious competition for drag racers, with events held all over the world for drivers to show off their skills and fans to have an exciting day at the track. Scion Racing's superstar drag racer is California's Scott Kelley, who drives a 2010 Scion xB with a 2.6L Toyota 3RZ engine in competition. One of the top racers of all time on the NHRA circuit, Scott was closely involved with Toyota engineers in developing his specialist vehicle.
Drift racing is a phenomenon that has made it to the US from the Far East, and involves drivers building up speed until they “drift” around corners with the car at a horizontal angle, rather than facing forward. Scion has two drivers in the Formula Drift Pro Championship; team Scion RS*R with driver Ken Gushi and team Need for Speed, driven by Fredric Aasbo.
Scion Racing's road and rally teams are more conventional than the drift and drag boys, but they have proven to be just as successful in competition. In the recent 2011 Rally-America series, Scion Racing was represented by Andrew Comrie-Picard at the wheel of a specially-designed Scion 2010 xD who finished a creditable 12th in his first season. In 2012, Comrie-Picard will be at the wheel of an improved Scion 2011 xD, along with co-driver Jeremy Wimpey.
