Ford recently stated that their car sales for March jumped by five percent for the fact that many consumers are shifting toward small cars like the Focus. Although it’s a small figure, Ford said it’s the biggest March sales gain since 2007. Ford’s U.S. sales analyst Erich Merkle said the company may have the biggest share in compact cars in the following decade.

Since the introduction of Ford’s EcoBoost engine, the company has seen a spike in demand for their cars that come with it. It’s not just the Focus but also the big haulers like the F-150 have this engine that accounts for 20 percent better fuel economy and 15 percent less gas emissions. This is a clear indication of the shifting trend toward fuel economy.

First time car buyers aside, many Americans have also begun trading in their gas guzzlers for fuel savers. Since 2011, analysts saw a spike in the number of trade-in transactions particularly in November and December. In fact, President Obama endorsed trading in as a way to mitigate the effects of gas prices.

With gas prices not about to let up on their hike soon, it may seem that a trade-in or a good buy is ideal. After all, the price of oil per barrel is only partly dictated by a country, as the world market is the prime basis.
