Domestic car market has come a long way for being recognized as a hub for small and low priced cars to an exponentially growing auto pivot luring renowned car makers from across the globe. Year 2011 was historic for Indian car market as many celebrated car brands were infused in India. Apart from being exposed to a host of luxury car brands, Indian customers are now hungry for pricey cars delivered from the car makers. Year 2012 is also going to witness launch of few of the most desirable premium cars in the price bracket of Rs 10-20 lakh. Let us have a glance at these cars which could soon be parked outside your house.

Maruti Swift Sport

Starting with Maruti’s posh, Swift Sport hatchback that is present in few of the global markets and could head towards the Indian car market soon. Swift Sport is a sturdier variant of Swift hatchback, under the hood could reside a powerful 1.4 litre K14 engine that can engender 104 Bhp of maximum power and a peak torque of 130 Nm. This is the same engine that does duty in Maruti’s compact MPV, Ertiga, or Swift Sport can also share the 1.6 litre M16 engine which currently powers Maruti SX4. This sporty version of the most popular hatchback is expected to come with a hefty price tag of around Rs 13 lakh. However, Maruti Suzuki India is yet to zero in on the idea of launching the sports version of Swift in India.

New Hyundai Elantra

Korean car maker, Hyundai has decided to tighten its grip in the Indian car market. After spawning some of the facelifts this year, Hyundai Motors India is now ready to re-launch Elantra premium sedan in India. To further lighten up the festive season of Diwali, Hyundai will render new Elantra premium sedan during Diwali time. Rumour mills suggest that Hyundai could price Elantra around Rs 13 lakh and will take on the likes of Honda Civic, Ford Fiesta etc. Hyundai Elantra will be placed above Verna and will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise which will be a major plus point for the sedan as compared to its counterpart Honda Civic. Expect a 1.8 VTVT engine along with a 1.6 CRDi doing duty in the new Elantra.

New Chevrolet Cruze

Chevrolet on the other hand could launch the new Cruze sedan anytime; the new version of Cruze is expected to flaunt new exteriors and chic interiors. A mighty Z Series engine will be equipped in the new avatar of Chevrolet Cruze sedan. Cruze has been a good selling model from the American car maker’s portfolio and with the new model Chevrolet expects to continue the same legacy. GM is likely to price Cruze’s new version a tad higher than the outgoing version. Presently the Cruze sedan is available at a starting price of Rs 12.54 lakh (ex-showroom price). New Cruze will lock horns with Toyota Corolla Altis, Renault Fluence, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Laura and Honda Civic.

Toyota Corolla Altis Aero Diesel

On the occasion of completing 10 glorious years in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motors launched the limited edition of Toyota Corolla, the Altis Aero. The limited edition was launched only in petrol guise, but now what we hear from the gossip mongers is that Toyota could ponder launching diesel version of Toyota Corolla Altis Aero. 500 exclusive units of Corolla Altis Areo are up for grabs until September 2012, available at price of Rs 11.47 lakh it is definitely a mouth watering offer for customers. Now the diesel version will definitely be tagged higher than the petrol version, Toyota has sensed demand for diesel cars in India and hence is contemplating launch of Corolla Altis Aero diesel.

New Chevrolet Captiva

We all have been waiting to witness launch of spruced up Chevrolet Captiva SUV since March. Reports earlier suggested that the upgraded SUV will be launched in the month of April, but weeks after the expected launch, we still await to catch glimpse of new Captiva. Though we did catch glimpse of new Captiva at the Auto Expo 2012 organized at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Revivified Captiva will come affixed with 2.2 litres diesel motor replacing the current 2.0 litre motor and will be synchronized with the six speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet has kept the price details under the wraps, hopefully it will be placed a tad more than the outgoing version which is priced at Rs 18.74 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
