Social Media Sites May Face Prosecution for Hosting Inflammatory Contents

The big blow for all the social media sites is being approaching as the Delhi High Court has initiated issues for them to face prosecution for being privy to the hosting of inflammatory contents on their webpages. This may impact on sales solutions in all companies as they are into various sectors. Sales solutions of a company depends on fame also as people like to have deals from the designated place. However, Google has already made it clear that they are not going to handle this issue as they do not want to intervene users' content.

The counsel for one Vinay Rai, who had moved the trial court for prosecution of various websites, said with regard to Google's plea, “The US-based Google Inc and Google India are same and they had the knowledge of the contents because of their means and mechanism to monitor their web pages. They cannot seek protection under the Information Technology(IT) Act. Protection under section 79 of the IT Act is not available to them as they are doing more than just providing space for posting the material. Google Inc has knowledge of existing objectionable material on its webpages and has also the means to check them," he said adding "the foreign company works on the contents and makes advertisement on it."

The government counsel said to the court with regard to this, "They are generating revenue by providing space and posting advertisements on it. Google Inc has affiliates and subsidiaries all over the world and they provide services on behalf of it. Countering Google's argument that it has nothing to do with the third party contents. Google is entitled to pre-screen, refuse, review, remove, modify and filter before transmitting the contents."

However, it may be a quite tough for all social media sites to look into the content by the users to filter it and also someone's personal feel is to be opened at least in the Internet media as it is a human right to spell own feeling. Now the most important factor is in the hand of users how they react on it and to proceed further as they are not getting opportunity to speak out their own feel in public then it may reduce the usage of all social media sites. This may impact a lot in the entire sales solution for all social media sites. However, we need to wait and see what would be the next.
